Contributing to Directions
We welcome contributions to Directions. – see below for guidelines. The copy date for the Spring issue is normally the middle of February, and for the Autumn issue the end of July – send your contribution to ukcle@warwick.ac.uk.
Directions aims to disseminate news and views from the legal education community, including updates on UKCLE activities and other initiatives of interest.
Directions encourages the exchange of ideas and practices on issues relating to learning and teaching law and the student learning experience as well as contributions on strategic issues relating to the future and direction of legal education and training. Pieces on the experience of legal education in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are especially welcome.
Guidelines
A full feature should be around 900-1,000 words, but shorter news items are also welcome. If you are including illustrations with your article, please ensure any images are of sufficiently high quality to be reproduced in print format.
The tone of contributions should be scholarly and professional, but also accessible to non-specialist readers – a feature in Times Higher Education rather than an article from an academic journal.
Other points to bear in mind:
- avoid jargon, define acronyms and specialist terms
- avoid footnotes and references – include a ‘further information’ section at the end of your article with details of publications and Web addresses as appropriate
- use of the first person for opinion type pieces is acceptable
Once an article has been accepted for publication copyright resides with UKCLE, however you retain the right to reuse the material in other publications. Please obtain permission from copyright holders for any material reproduced in your writing.
